Jonas Tofterup, younger brother to David Tofterup, was born in Esbjerg–Denmark in 1985. Having looked up to his older brother as a role model, it was at a very early age that Jonas decided he would one day like to work alongside his brother to create exciting, quality driven wines. At the early age of 12 he was asked to write an essay on what he wanted to do when he grew up. He proudly wrote that he would be making we wine together with his brother in Spain.
His dream slowly started becoming a reality when David in 2004 decided to start making a Trenza. Even though Jonas at this time was still taking his A-levels in Denamrk, David still encouraged Jonas to take part, making it a family project. Ever since David started making Trenza, Jonas managed to take periods out of his school schedule to help David during the most intense periods of the winemaking.
To get to where Jonas is now, he has worked hard studying and working with wines internationally. He obtained his B.Sc in Food Science and Technology from the University of Copenhagen in 2009. Three years later he received his M.Sc. in Viticulture and Enology from the international Erasmus Mundus program, Vinifera Euromaster. To improve his knowledge of the wines of the world, Jonas has been taking courses through the WSET, and in 2013 he will achieve the WSET Level 4 Diploma. Along with his intense studies he has participated in a number of harvests across the world. Working with Monastrell from Yecla-Spain to Pinot Noirs and Chardonays in Baden-Germany as well as with Rieslings from Rheingau-Germany and Stellenbosch-South Africa Shiraz’s.
June 2012 he joined the Vinnico Export winemaking team. Living in Valladolid–Spain, Jonas is focused on the Vinnico’s Ribera del Duero wines as well as the collections in the surrounding areas of Rueda, Toro, and Bierzo.
